Canadian Landscape

Chinese Ink, fine point marker and white conté on watercolour paper

11"x 15"

From the spontaneously produced ink stain, I initially noticed a landscape.  I then saw a dome which made me think of the Biosphere in Montreal's Jean-Drapeau park.  This park and other such urban parks excite thoughts of city life, concerts, bike rides around Montreal or cultural activities rather than wilderness and nature.  During a recent trip to Toronto, I noticed the striking differences with Montreal's urban planning.  The fast paced lifestyle of dense urban centres was most evident in the skyscrapers of Toronto's waterfront area.  I chose to develop my Montreal landscape into a broader Canadian landscape in which nature and industrialization cohabit.
