The large scale drawing intended to represent the movement of individuals through space, how individuals travel and cross paths with each other through a seemingly organic flow. The completion of this piece yielded some rather interesting results with some unexpected symbolic elements complimenting the key elements I had carefully researched and selected to convey my message. For instance, the location of the swimmers on the word map nods at my own travels and life experiences. Furthermore, the compositional effect of the sinuous lines which intended to create movement and a sort of controlled chaos also referenced much deeper experiences by its density and shape. The choice of athletic subjects rendered in great detail were part of a study of the human body’s musculature. The drawing techniques used aimed to distinguish the subjects from the background while still allowing the swimmers to fit organically in their environment.
